Here are some of the prayers we use at St Olaf’s.
Almighty God, we offer you grateful thanks for this time together. May we, in the quiet and peace of this moment, lay before you ourselves, our hearts, our lives, to do with as you will. Take us from the cares and worries of our world, and let us learn from the beauty we see around us to trust in your eternal goodness and strength. Be present among us now as we worship. Amen.
Heavenly Father, in our worship help us to sing your praises, confess our sins, hear your word, and bring our prayers to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
In our gathering in this created place
Creator God, be among us.
In our gathering among flocks and becks
Jesus, good shepherd, be among us.
In our gathering among the mysteries of high places
Holy Spirit of mystery, be among us. Amen
Father, we ask your forgiveness for the times when we have failed you:
When we have not cared enough for your world, in your mercy, forgive us, O Lord.
When we have not cared enough for you, in your mercy, forgive us, O Lord.
When we have been content with ourselves as we are, in your mercy, forgive us, O Lord.
Give us the will and the power to live in the spirit of Jesus, now and always. Amen
Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. In your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen.
Eternal God, creator, and Father of us all,
We thank you for this wonderful world,
for the ever-changing skies and seasons,
for the earth beneath our feet and the fells that surround us,
for the becks, the lake, and the sea,
for the farms, fields and flocks, for the valley and our visitors.
We give you thanks for our families, friends and neighbours.
Above all, we thank you for your Son, for all that he taught us and for the sacrifice he made for us.
In turn, in humility, we offer you our lives.
May all that we do and all that we say be in joyful, worthy, and willing service of you,
our Lord and heavenly King. Amen.
Let us pray to God with thanksgiving in our hearts! Heavenly Father, we thank you for our friends, our families, our neighbours, and our visitors. We thank you for our communities, for our wonderful surroundings, and for all the good things you so richly provide.
Give us ever thankful hearts, we pray.
For work and education, for food and clothes,
For happiness, laughter and fun, we thank you Lord.
We thank you for your love for us, unasked and undeserved.
We thank you for your wisdom given when we ask you.
But above all we thank you for your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ, for his teachings, and for the leadership he gives us. Help us to serve him faithfully all our lives. Amen.
We believe in God the Father, whose loving care is the pattern for life.
We believe in Jesus, the Son of God, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high.
We believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
God who plants prayer in the parables of creation and encounter,
Help us to be alert to your goodness and guidance.
Jesus who turned aside to pray, to empower teaching and healing,
Help us to share his continuing concerns for our wounded world.
Holy Spirit, bringer of light and life,
Help us to be alert to her presence, and potential.
We ask these things in the unity of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
In response to God’s kindness in creation
We seek his help as stewards of his world.
In response to places where we live and work
We seek his help in the healing of our world.
In response to the needs of the world outside ourselves
We seek his help in helping others. Amen
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen
Send us out into your world to live and work to your praise and glory;
for the justice and peace that God intends, for the healing and hope that Jesus brings, for vision and action in the Spirit’s power. Amen.
Be with us, Lord, as we go out into the world. May our lips which have sung your praise always speak the truth, may our ears which have heard your word, listen only to what is good, and may our lives, as well as our worship, always be pleasing to you, for the glory of Jesus Christ, our beloved Lord. Amen
May the road rise with you;
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
May the rain fall soft upon your fields.
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand. Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
The Lord be with us, today and always. Amen
